Rafael Canogar (1935) - Iberoaméricana

Rafael Canogar. "Ibero-America". Technique: Lithography Support: Canson paper, 320-gram edition Dimensions: 100 x 70 cm Edition: 99 copies (regular edition) B.A.T.: 1 P/A: 10 (romano) H.C.: 10 (romano) P/T: 5 (árabe) 1. Rafael Canogar (Toledo, 1935) is a living titan and a cornerstone figure of European contemporary art of the 20th and 21st centuries. 2. Founder in 1957 of the legendary group El Paso, he led the informalist vanguard and opened Spanish art to the world. 3. His meteoric global rise came in 1960 when he exhibited in New York’s modern art temples: the MoMA and the Guggenheim. 4. He triumphed and was a standout protagonist at the prestigious Venice Biennale, where he was recognized and distinguished with his own special room. 5. His international career includes important distinctions in global events, such as the award at the 1971 São Paulo Biennial. 6. Undisputed pioneer of material painting, he fused the radicality of gesture with dramatic and social intensity. 7. Awarded the National Award for Plastic Arts (1982) and the Gold Medal for Artistic Merit in Spain. 8. Academic member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, he embodies the bridge between modernity and cult academicism. 9. His work is on display in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) in Madrid and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. 10. His signature is part of key global collections such as the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Rome, and in Turin. 11. He has his own museum and permanent headquarters in Toledo: the Rafael Canogar Space, in the historic Roca Tarpeya complex. 12. The technical mastery of his reliefs, textures, and graphic work places his creations among the most sought-after in the secondary market. 13. Essential in any collection of historical avant-garde alongside figures like Antonio Saura, Manolo Millares, or Antoni Tàpies. 14. An undeniable icon whose market value and historical relevance remain fully current and continually appreciating.
