Rare 18th century handmade borders and edgings, from the deceased estate of a lace collector. The collection being a comprehensive group of finely hand made Belgian, Flemish and French mixed bobbin and needle laces, including a long wider Milanese bobbin lace flounce, possibly for edging bed linen: 478cm long x 10cm wide, the flounce ends uncut. The Milanese lace is with a comprehensive collection of handmade 18th century Brussels, Alencon, Valenciennes, Binche and other mixed bobbin and needle lace edgings made for dress bodices, sleeves and fine spun linen nightwear, affordable only for Royalty and titled aristocrats. Condition; some edgings have very fine rust stains and some are damage in places, but not all, both rust and damage restorable. Considering their age and fineness of the threads used to make these laces they appear well looked after. Some lengths look unused.
