Rare NKISI/NKONDI Powerfigure - Figure - Songye - Congo
Small powerfigure of the Songye people living in Congo. Ex collection of the wellknown collector Jacques Choboto, living in Congo. Now in my personal Dutch collection. Small Songye fetish, a Nkisi powerfigure. Smaller figures belong to an individual of a family. It plays the role of mediator between gods and men. These figures are associated with the smallpox epidemic from 1920 to 1930. Regions of the Eki, Sanga and Kalebwa. The whole body of the figure is covered with handcrafted conical nails. Material: wood, reptile-skin, cowryshells, metal, raffia, sheet-copper, ritual materials.
