Red Bamboo Coral - Intricate Organic Textures Handcrafted...

Mosaic of polished tiles on a concave metal structure — A refined decorative tray or catchall that embodies the fusion between natural matter and contemporary design. This piece, originating from India, features a mosaic surface crafted with Bamboo Coral tiles, carefully assembled within a modern metal framework with silvered finishes. Its square, slightly concave form makes it both functional and aesthetically refined, capable of catching the eye and enriching any setting. Close inspection reveals meticulous artisanal workmanship. The inner surface is a vibrant carpet of rectangular tiles, whose deep red hue is brightened by orange tones and the intrinsic organic texture of coral, visible on every single element. This natural variation creates a dynamic and deep effect, enhanced by the polishing that gives a delicate sheen. The mosaic is framed by a smooth, glossy metal edge, producing an elegant textural and chromatic contrast. Four small spherical feet lift the object, granting it both lightness and stability. Bamboo Coral (Isididae family) is a marine organism of the deep sea whose skeleton, made of calcium carbonate, features segments alternating with protein nodes, reminiscent of a bamboo stalk. Its natural color ranges from white to cream; the vivid red coloration of this specimen is achieved through a dyeing process, a well-established and appreciated practice that yields intense, uniform tones, emulating the appearance of the rarest and most protected precious corals, while preserving its distinctive porous structure visible throughout. This tray is a perfect example of a modern Wunderkammer object. Its dual nature, halfway between natural history relic and design furniture accessory, makes it ideal for a discerning collector or for anyone seeking a unique piece for their study, bookshelf, or console. It can serve as an elegant jewelry holder, a catchall on a desk, or simply as a decorative sculpture, testifying to a craftsmanship that knows how to transform nature’s wonders into functional art.
