Relief, Piedad - 28 cm - Bronze

Expressive devotional figure of the Virgin Mary holding the body of Christ, made in gilded bronze during the second half of the 20th century. The composition, inspired by the traditional theme of the Pietà, conveys a strong symbolic and spiritual force through a refined sculptural language, where emotion arises from the soft forms and the intimate dialogue between the two figures. The Virgin is depicted with a serene face and the head covered by a wide mantle of fluid folds that delicately frame her features. In her arms she holds Christ’s head, whose figure rests with great naturalness, creating a compact and balanced composition that concentrates all attention on the human and sacred bond between mother and son. The rounded volumes and enveloping lines reinforce the sense of gathered contemplation. The gilded bronze finish adds warmth and luminosity to the work, while the light dark patinas present in the deep reliefs highlight the modelling and provide greater visual depth. The treatment of the hair, the mantle’s folds, and the hands reveals careful casting and finishing work, contributing to the expressive richness of the whole. This is a piece with religious theme particularly suitable for chapels, meditation spaces, or sacral art collections, although its value transcends the devotional realm to become a decorative sculpture of great aesthetic sensitivity. It remains in good overall condition, with slight signs of use and aging in keeping with its age. An elegant representation of the Pietà that combines the nobility of gilded bronze with a profoundly human and timeless composition, capable of imparting solemnity, beauty, and meaning to any space.
