RENE KERN Earrings dating from approximately 1970–1980, crafted in 18-carat yellow gold and set with diamonds and chrysoprase. The chrysoprases have been custom-cut: their overlapping lines create a geometric silhouette that is highly emblematic of the period, with the stone’s intense green offering a superb contrast to the brilliance of the diamonds. These pieces feature the classic “Day & Night” modular design: The top sectioncan be worn on its own (length approximately 3 cm) for an everyday look that is both refined and bold. The removable chrysoprase pendantcan be added to bring the total length to approximately 8.5 cm, instantly transforming the piece into a more spectacular and dramatic evening accessory. A single pair offering two radically different styles—a particularly telling example of the pragmatic and functional design of high jewelry from the 1970s and 1980s. Weight: 38g René Kernwas a leading master goldsmith and jeweler in Germany after World War II, whose creations perfectly embody the style of European fine jewelry from the 1960s to the 1980s. At the period, René Kern was considered the German equivalent of Cartier or Van Cleef & Arpels, meeting the demands of an affluent clientele, celebrities, and jewelry collectors across Europe. In addition to the fine jewelry pieces conceived and crafted in his own workshops, he was also a retailer and preferred partner in Germany for prestigious watchmakers such as Patek Philippe.
