Renée van Leusden (1947-2025) - Standing

Renée van Leusden Standing Bronze Signed Renée van Leusden (1947–2025) was a Dutch sculptor who built up a recognizable and beloved body of work for more than fifty years. Her work is characterized by expressive, figurative forms in which human emotions and relationships are central. With her sculptures she made themes such as love, connectedness, strength, vulnerability and harmony visible in an accessible and poetic way. After her training at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in ’s-Hertogenbosch, Van Leusden developed a completely own visual language. Her sculptures often depict stylized human figures that radiate a strong emotional charge through their posture and movement. Although her work is figurative, it is not a faithful representation of reality; it is precisely the simplification of form and line that strengthens the expressiveness of her works. Bronze formed the main material in her oeuvre. The warm look and durability of this material aligned seamlessly with her pursuit of timeless human themes. Her sculptures can be found in both private collections and in the public space across the Netherlands. Van Leusden’s work occupies a special place within contemporary Dutch sculpture. Her figures speak to a wide audience by depicting recognizable feelings and experiences without losing depth. In this way she leaves behind a body of work that testifies to craftsmanship, humanity, and a lasting fascination with the power of human connection.
