Type of jewel: Antique diamond cluster ring. Condition: In well-preserved condition, especially given this ring’s age. Style: Victorian, with a flower-like cluster and gently tapering shoulders. Era: Circa 1880. Material: 18K warm yellow gold, touchstone tested. Diamonds: Nine rose-cut diamonds: a central stone surrounded by eight smaller diamonds. The central diamond has visible inclusions giving it a so-called “salt-and-pepper” appearance. Rose-cut diamonds are traditionally described by number rather than by estimated weight, colour or clarity grades. Their varying and often irregular depth prevents reliable weight estimation while mounted, while formal colour and clarity grading is not customary in the trade for diamonds of this antique cutting style. All diamonds in this ring were individually tested with the Magilabs' EXA Natural Diamond Detector and identified as natural diamonds. Traditional gemstone associations: Diamond is traditionally associated with April and enduring love. Engraving: An illegible inscription inside the shank. Hallmarks: No trace of hallmarks.
