Type of jewel: Sapphire ring with diamond-set shoulders. Condition: In well-preserved condition, especially given this ring's age. Style: Art Deco, with a rectangular, cut-cornered sapphire flanked by stepped diamond-set shoulders. Era: Circa 1930. Material: Platinum, touchstone tested. Diamonds: Fourteen eight-cut diamonds with an estimated total weight of 0.20 ct (colour F–H; clarity SI–I). Diamond weights, colour and clarity are approximate, as the stones were assessed in their settings and were not removed for grading or weighing. All diamonds in this ring were individually tested with the Magilabs' EXA Natural Diamond Detector and identified as natural diamonds. Gemstone: One rectangular, cut-cornered natural sapphire of deep blue colour, with an estimated weight of 4.60 ct. The gemstone weight is approximate, as the stone was assessed in its setting and was not removed for weighing. It is common practice for gemstones to be treated in order to improve their colour or clarity. The sapphire has not been tested for such treatments. Traditional gemstone associations: Sapphire is traditionally associated with September and loyalty; diamond with April. Hallmarks: No trace of hallmarks.
