These locomotives were designed after World War II by Krupp for the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) to replace the Baureihe 01, 01.10 and locomotive classes of the Länderbahnen. The series, however, came too late to be developed into a large and important series and was quickly withdrawn. Therefore this series never received a computer number.
