Rolex Precision Chronometer, Ref. 4579, in 18-carat rose gold. Circa 1946. An elegant Rolex Precision Chronometer from the 1940s, this Ref. 4579 perfectly exemplifies the Geneva-based manufacturer’s craftsmanship prior to the emergence of its major contemporary collections. Its 34-mm case in 18-carat rose gold captivates with its harmonious proportions and its remarkable, rare “teardrop” lugs, whose shape has been carefully preserved. This sculptural design, characteristic of certain postwar Rolex models, gives the watch a unique personality and a striking presence. The watch retains its original dial, whose warm and particularly even patina has developed naturally over the decades. The applied gold Arabic numerals, leaf-shaped hands, and the slender, blued central seconds hand combine to create a highly elegant ensemble. The inscription “Officially Certified Chronometer” serves as a reminder that this watch belonged to the most prestigious category of Rolex production during its period. Inside beats a Rolex manual-winding mechanical movement, Certified as a chronometer, reflecting the exacting standards of precision that have greatly contributed to the manufacturer’s reputation. This watch has been inspected by a renowned independent watchmaker in Paris and is presented on a Camille Fournet Paris alligator Bracelet made specifically for it. Rare due to its reference number, its chronometer status, and its excellent condition, this Rolex Precision is a particularly appealing piece for collectors of high-quality Vintage watches.
