Near East, Roman Imperial period to early Islamic era. A pair of strands of ancient glass beads, comprising several dozen beads. Decoration includes marvered feather and festoon patterns in yellow, white, and red on dark grounds, spiraling and applied wavy trails, millefiori, and mosaic cane inlay. Forms include barrel, oblate, and rounded cylindrical, most with wide central perforations. Palette runs through yellow, white, red, turquoise, green, grey, and opaque black. Surfaces show burial weathering and iridescence. Beads of this type were used as personal adornment and in trade across the Near East. Presently strung on monofilament and readily restrung.
