When you leaf through the catalogs of jewelry dealers from the late Victorian era, one thing stands out above all else: the selection was dominated by romantic motifs. The arrow, for example, is one of those motifs that was repeatedly featured and reinterpreted. The meaning of the arrow is obvious—it is, after all, Cupid’s famous arrow, which pierces the heart and thus awakens love. But how long might this love last?
