Russia. 6 x 125 Rubel gouden obligaties 1890

This is a Russian four-percent gold bond from 1890, specifically the second issue. Explanation: Document type: The document is a bond, a promissory note that entitles the holder to periodic interest payments and repayment of the principal at maturity. Issuer: The Russian Imperial Government (РОССІЙСКОЕ ИМПЕРАТОРСКОЕ ПРАВИТЕЛЬСТВО) issued this bond. Value: The nominal value is 125 gold rubles, which at the time corresponded to, among others, 500 French francs, 404 German marks, 10 pounds sterling, and 230 Dutch guilders (as stated on the bond itself and confirmed by search results). Purpose: The proceeds from this debt issue of ninety million rubles in gold were probably intended to finance railway projects, as suggested by the context of a similar “Russian Railway Bond.” Features: It is a four-percent bond, which means the holder received 4% interest annually on the nominal value. The bond is “bearer,” meaning the owner is whoever physically owns the document. The above text I obtained via AI; the bonds come from my father’s estate, and because I have no knowledge about it at all, I looked it up on the internet. There are 6 bonds. The paper is somewhat discolored, there is a fold in it, and the edges show light signs of wear. In several places, but especially in the upper right, something is written in pencil. Bond size: 31.5 x 42.5 cm.
