Info : The antique Caucasian Shirvan rug is a high-quality, hand-knotted carpet from the Shirvan region in the eastern Caucasus (today's Azerbaijan). These rugs date from the 19th and early 20th centuries and are renowned for their fine, dense knots, geometric patterns, and harmonious color palette. Features of a Shirvan rug: Pattern: Shirvan rugs are characterized by intricate, symmetrical patterns with medallions, stylized flowers, diamonds, and abstract animal motifs. Colors: Frequently used colors include red, blue, green, ivory, and yellow, often derived from natural plant and mineral dyes. Material: These rugs are typically made from hand-spun wool on a cotton or wool warp, giving them a fine, durable structure. Border: The borders are usually richly decorated with Caucasian symbols, including hook motifs (protective symbols), wavy lines (water marks) and rosettes.
