S.T. Dupont - Ligne 1 Small - Genuine 20μ Gold Plated...

A0000005359 We are putting up for auction one of the most absolute, aristocratic, and coveted icons of French luxury lacquered high manufacturing: the compact pocket lighter S.T. Dupont Ligne 1 Small Model, handmade in France during the 1970s. This superb collectible piece stands out in the Maison’s historical catalog for its magistral execution in noble materials: a robust chassis with a sumptuous 20-micron gold plating that entirely covers a sophisticated geometric pattern. A high-fashion executive design that exudes opulence, presentation, and classic minimalism. The design of this lighter embodies the firm’s quintessential noble robustness: its compact dimensions measure a perfect 4.7 cm in height, 3.5 cm in width, and 1.4 cm in thickness, offering a presence, solidity, and a tangible weight in the hand that are truly majestic. The front, back, and side panels display the sober and elegant motif of vertical parallel lines (Godron), which generates subtle and aristocratic golden reflections that capture light cleanly from any angle. On the base are preserved with absolute clarity and depth all of the Maison’s official legitimacy stamps, including the technical punch of “20μ” certifying the thickness of its sumptuous gold plating of the era, accompanied by its individually hand-engraved serial number 04980, whose slightly irregular alignment is the unequivocal guarantee of its period authenticity. Mechanically, the lighter belongs to the golden age of the firm’s engineering, incorporating the classic system with the cylindrical roller for lateral ignition and the built-in butane gas loading door in the base. The piece is in excellent cosmetic and fully functional condition, offering an instant spark to the roller and a vivid, clean, powerful, and perfectly stable flame, as certified in the images. Condition: Collectible Quality / Excellent Vintage The aesthetic and mechanical condition of this exemplar is magnificent, having been protected with the utmost care in a display case: Vertical Lines Pattern (Godron): It is in superb condition, preserving the sharpness and depth of its geometric grooves intact, with no flat wear from friction or dents that would compromise the continuity of its sumptuous visual texture. Gold-Plated Chassis: The 20-micron gold plating maintains a radiant shine and an excellent vintage patina, showing only imperceptible and logical minor signs of the years on the profiles. The top lid opens with total firmness and keeps perfect tension in the hinge. Mechanics: The toothed roller turns with milimetric smoothness and the gas valve is fully hermetic, leak-free, guaranteeing stable and clean combustion. Curious Fact for the Collector For appraisers and experts at Catawiki, the Ligne 1 Small/S. T. Dupont lighters with the classic vertical lines (Godron) fully gold-plated to 20 microns represent a very solid patrimonial investment because it is the design that best resists the test of time and the micro-scratches of daily use. The Small format greatly enhances the ergonomics of the piece, turning it into a timeless object highly sought after by sibarite smokers and collectors who prioritize classic minimalism over more elaborately etched pieces. The fact that it is 100% operational and has a flame that sharp ensures intense competition and a truly wild bidding ratio on the international arena. I wish you the best of luck in your bids and an excellent auction to all Catawiki participants!
