Saint George and the Dragon – Obsidian - Guard against the Forces of Darkness. An obsidian necklace bearing the medal of Saint George slaying the dragon, a insignia of chivalrous bravery forged to make justice triumph and keep the advantage in the face of adversity. Before the ramparts of the city of Silene, a creature rising from the swamps spreads terror and claims each day its tribute of innocents. History & Secrets of the Symbol: Saint George and the Golden Legend: The Model of Chivalry Recorded in the 13th century by Jacobus de Voragine in the Golden Legend, Saint George’s victory over the dragon became the foundational epic of the orders of knighthood. Venerated as the protector of fighters and the oppressed, the saint recalls the duty to act with firmness to defend justice and protect the most vulnerable. The Lance and the Destrier: The Impulse of Righteous Action In medieval art, Saint George’s rearing horse symbolizes self-control and the victorious impulse. The spear — named Ascalon in heroic tales — represents direct and prompt action that neutralizes danger at the root, never flinching before threat. The Dragon Beneath the Hoofs: The Triumph over Adversity In sacred symbolism, the dragon defeated under the horse’s hooves represents disorder, discord, and destructive greed. His submission under the guard of the saint asserts that no obstacle is insurmountable for one who advances with honor and determination. Obsidian: The Shield and the Firmness of Spirit Recognized in protection traditions as a major defensive stone, obsidian forms a barrier against malevolence, hostile intents, and heavy atmospheres. Renowned for cutting through hesitation, it supports moral clarity and helps its wearer display exemplary calm under pressure daily.
