Salvador Dali (1904-1989) - Decorado para el ballet “Tristán loco”

Salvador Dali (1904-1989) - Decorado para el ballet “Tristán loco”

Artist: Salvador Dalí (Spain, 1904 - 1989). Title of the work and date: Poster "Decorado para el ballet Tristán loco". - Original work linked to the premiere at the Metropolitan Theatre of New York (1945). - Year of edition of this copy: 1981. Technique: Lithographic / offset poster from the era on thick matte paper. Information about the edition and context (collectors' value): Extraordinary and rare large-format piece (almost 1 meter wide) documenting Salvador Dalí’s foray into theatrical scenography. The poster reproduces the surreal backdrop designed by Dalí for the famous ballet "Tristán loco" (Tristan Fou), funded and produced by the legendary Marquis of Cuevas Company and premiered at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York in 1945. It is a highly sought-after piece for its dual appeal: attractive to surrealist art collectors as well as lovers of dance history and set design. Officially issued in 1981 by Distribucions d'art surrealista. Signature, imprint line and inscriptions: - Bottom center: "SALVADOR DALÍ / Decorado para el ballet Tristán loco, estrenado en el Teatro Metropolitano de Nueva York, Compañía Marqués de Cuevas". (Text reproduced in four languages: Catalan, French, Spanish and English). - Bottom left corner: Dalinian logo/monogram and the text "Distribucions d'art surrealista, s.a.". - Bottom right corner: "BP-150 Prohibida la reproducció - D.L.B.: 3387-1981 / Printed in Spain / ALEU, S. A.". Material type and dimensions: - Support: Thick era lithographic paper. - Large panoramic dimensions: 68 x 98.5 cm. Provenance: Private collection, Spain. Printed by Aleu S.A. in Barcelona, 1981. Condition: Condition is acceptable with evident signs of aging along the margins (Vintage Fair/Good condition). - The central image (the surreal set design) is in excellent condition, preserving its original colors very vivid, dark and contrasted (deep blues and earth tones), with no faded areas. - The surrounding white margins show visible signs of age and storage: slight foxing stains distributed on the white paper. - The top white margin shows small tears, creases, and some edge losses. - IMPORTANT: All wear is strictly marginal. When the work is mounted under a mat or standard frame, edge imperfections will be completely hidden, making the central artwork look spectacular. (Please review the attached photos carefully to verify the margins’ condition). - Unframed work. Shipping: Professional packaging, rolled with protective tissue in a rigid high-density tube, with tracking number and shipping insurance.
