Schnakenpohl – my place of tranquillity - Gary Westall

Schnakenpohl – my place of tranquillity by Gary Westall Painting 15.8 x 19.7 :: Two years ago I took a photograph at Schnakenpohl in Varl which inspired me to paint this picture. To this day I remain fascinated by the tranquillity and natural beauty of this lake which was formed during the Ice Age. Using bold colours and lively brushstrokes I try to express my impressions and feelings. The vibrant green and yellow the deep shadows cast by the trees and the cool blue of the water reflect the special atmosphere of this place. For me the Schnakenpohl is a place of retreat where I find peace recharge my batteries and draw inspiration. In summer when thousands of water lilies are in bloom it reveals its full beauty. However its fragile habitat is under threat from climate change and alterations to the water balance. Through my painting I wish to show my connection with nature and help raise awareness of the need to protect such special places. Signed bottom right.
