Oil on canvas representing Saint Francis of Assisi in prayer, a Bologna School work attributed to Guido Reni's workshop, likely executed during the 17th century. The composition responds directly to the devotional models developed by Guido Reni and his circle: half-length figure, elevated gaze, hands clasped in prayer, halo discreetly drawn and strong contrast between the illuminated face and the dark background. Notably the expressiveness of the face, the modeling of the flesh tones and the treatment of the hands stand out. The work shows old re-stretching, craquelure in line with its age and visible historic restorations, preserving a notable aesthetic presence and devotional character. Accompanied by a gilded frame in classical style. Technique: oil on canvas School: Bolognese Attribution: workshop of Guido Reni Era: 17th century Canvas dimensions: 59 × 48 cm Frame dimensions with: 71 × 60 cm Condition: restored and re-stretched in the past; wear, craquelure and small losses typical of age. A piece of marked decorative quality and interest for collectors of old Italian painting, Baroque art and Old Masters.
