Rare bronze hand with a ring, signed Alphonse Giroux & Cie, Paris – 19th century Curious and elegant bronze art object depicting a hand sculpted with remarkable detail and naturalistic modeling. The piece features a beautiful patina, which underscores the realism of the sculpture. The hand is adorned with a ring and bears a monogram “DD” on a polygonal element located on the back of the hand. The reverse bears an engraved inscription “Alph. Giroux & Cie à Paris,” attributing the object to the famous Parisian house specialized in art and luxury objects in the 19th century. Three threaded perforations are visible at the ends of the hand. Their function remains to be determined and constitutes an interesting feature of this object. It was probably used to attach a base so that the piece could be displayed to best advantage.
