Canadian. Version française ci-dessous. A hanging pine sculpture of "Le Bon Pasteur" (The Good Shepherd) with strong remnants of cream-yellow paint and traces of original silver and gold leaf. Purchased in Quebec City in 1956-1957. A tag on the back suggests influence of Levasseur or Baillargé, whose styles were replicated by many young followers, including Ferdinand Villeneuve (1831-1909), who, in 1847, signed a six-year apprentice contract with Raphael Giroux (1815-1869), who had been a student of Thomas Baillargé. A sculpture of Le Bon Pasteur carved by Ferdinand Villeneuve, circa 1875, is illustrated on pages 142-143 of "Sculpture traditionelle du Quebec", collection Musee du Quebec. Another example is illustrated in "La Sculpture Ancienne du Quebec" by John Porter and Jean Belisle, sculpted by Villeneuve for the tabernacle of the church in Saint-Anselme in 1876. Sculpture en pin à suspendre représentant « Le Bon Pasteur », avec d’importants restes de peinture jaune crème et des traces de feuilles d’argent et d’or d’origine. Achetée à Québec en 1956-1957. Une étiquette au dos suggère l’influence de Levasseur ou de Baillargé, dont les styles furent repris par de nombreux jeunes disciples, comme Ferdinand Villeneuve (1831-1909). Villeneuve, en 1847, signa un contrat d’apprentissage de six ans avec Raphaël Giroux (1815-1869), lui-même élève de Thomas Baillargé. Une sculpture du Bon Pasteur, sculptée par Ferdinand Villeneuve vers 1875, est illustrée aux pages 142-143 de « Sculpture traditionnelle du Québec », collection du Musée du Québec. Un autre exemple est illustré dans « La Sculpture Ancienne du Québec » de John Porter et Jean Bélisle, sculpté par Villeneuve pour le tabernacle de l’église de Saint-Anselme en 1876.
