Old painting, oil on canvas, from the 17th century, depicting a still life with flowers, fruit and game. Interesting still life depicting a rich arrangement of fruits, clusters of grapes and flowers, arranged in a central nucleus from which slender stems and floral branches extend. At the bottom, a series of small animals and birds of prey are laid out horizontally, in a compact compositional layout that gives balance to the whole. The work is distinguished by the particular organization of the natural elements, with the mass of fruit and flowers concentrated in the center and developed laterally through the sinuous movement of the branches, in contrast to the band of game in the foreground. The palette, dominated by brownish, earth tones and gray-green, is brightened by the red and pink accents of the blossoms and by the warm tones of the fruits. The neutral and dark background helps to highlight the forms and the color contrasts. The composition shows affinities with the Italian tradition of still life between the 17th and early 18th centuries, and, in particular, with certain figurative types attributable to the circle of Pietro Navarra, a painter active in Rome and known for compositions with fruit, flowers and game. The execution preserves a appreciable decorative effectiveness, entrusted to the concentration of subjects, to the contrast between the vegetal group and the animals lying in the foreground and to the descriptive vivacity of the details. The work is presented in good overall condition, with signs of time consistent with its age. There are a few scattered restoration points, as well as light underdrawings and cracking of the painting surface, overall contained and not compromising the legibility of the depiction. The craquelure is homogeneous and attributable to the period, with no signs of active detachment. The original canvas has a lining that ensures proper tension and shows no conservation problems. The wooden frame appears to be contemporary with the lining and shows no structural issues. Overall the work is solid, well preserved and with a coherent historic patina, which testifies to its authenticity and natural conservation evolution over time. The painting is presented within a beautiful 17th-century antique frame, carved wood and gold leaf with silvering, characterized by a patinated surface and a striking craquelure. Defects, losses and signs of time are noted, as well as restorations and additions. The frame is included as a courtesy and is not an integral part of the artwork; any damage to it will not be a reason for claim or order cancellation.
