Article: SHEAFFER LIFETIME FLAT TOP FOUNTAIN PEN, smooth black body with gold ball clip and gold cap band, 14K gold nib and lever-filler loading Reference / Edition: Sheaffer’s Lifetime Flat Top (barrel imprint "W. A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. — FT. MADISON, IOWA, U.S.A." with patents AUG. 25 1908 / DEC. 10 1912 / JAN. 27 1914 / OCT. 20 1914) Length: 11.5 cm Diameter: 1.1 cm Nib: EF (extrafine), 14K gold, engraved "SHEAFFER'S LIFETIME — REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. — MADE IN U.S.A. — 14K" Period: 1920s – early 1930s Materials: Body and cap in high-gloss black ebonite/resin, gold-plated ball clip and cap band, 14K gold nib, ebonite feed and side-lever filler system (lever filler) Condition: Overall good condition for its age. The body and cap retain a strong, even shine, with no cracks or noticeable dents; there are light signs and micro-scratches from use typical of the era, some wear to the clip plating and cap band, and the barrel imprint somewhat faded but clearly legible. The 14K Lifetime nib appears aligned and without deformities, with crisp engraving. Vintage collectible piece; given its almost century-old lever-fill mechanism, it is recommended to check/replace the ink sac before continued use with ink. Accessories: Only the loose piece; no box, case, or papers visible in the photos.
