Created in 2015, this signed lithograph by Shepard Fairey—better known as OBEY—was designed in response to the tragic Paris terrorist attacks of November that year. Fairey reinterprets the French Republic’s timeless motto, “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity,” turning it into a bold, graphic statement of unity, resilience, and hope. With his trademark style inspired by vintage propaganda posters, Fairey combines powerful imagery with social commentary. The work became a symbol of solidarity and was widely displayed in Paris and beyond, reminding people of the strength found in shared values. Fairey distributed this image for free as posters and stickers in the streets of Paris after the attacks, emphasizing his belief that art should inspire and empower communities in times of crisis. Owning this lithograph means holding a piece of contemporary history where art and activism meet in one of Fairey’s most meaningful works.
