Shmidt.Art - Porsche - Porsche 911 Carrera 2 964 1990 - 1990s

A premium automotive poster dedicated to the 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 (964) — a landmark generation that preserved the unmistakable character of the classic air-cooled 911 while introducing a new level of technical sophistication and everyday usability. This artwork celebrates the 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupé in an elegant white finish, combining the timeless 911 silhouette with a carefully structured technical presentation. The composition features a large three-quarter illustration accompanied by front, rear, side and top views, a detailed air-cooled flat-six engine study, a driver-focused cockpit illustration and clearly arranged mechanical specifications. The 964 Generation The Porsche 964 represented one of the most important developments in the history of the classic 911. Although its overall shape remained immediately recognizable, much of the engineering beneath the body was substantially revised. Introduced at the end of the 1980s, the 964 brought the traditional air-cooled 911 concept into a more modern era while retaining the compact proportions, upright headlamps and rear-engine architecture that defined earlier generations. The Carrera 2 The Carrera 2 combined the 964 platform with the traditional rear-wheel-drive layout of the classic 911. Compared with the four-wheel-drive Carrera 4, the Carrera 2 offered a simpler drivetrain configuration that remained closely connected to the established character of Porsche's rear-engined sports cars. For 1990, the Carrera 2 was powered by Porsche's naturally aspirated 3.6-litre flat-six engine, delivering approximately 250 PS. 3.6-Litre Air-Cooled Flat-Six Mounted behind the rear axle is a 3.6-litre air-cooled horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. Known for its compact boxer configuration and distinctive mechanical character, the engine represented a significant increase in displacement compared with the previous Carrera 3.2 generation. Producing approximately 250 PS, the naturally aspirated flat-six provided strong performance without turbocharging while preserving the immediate response and mechanical simplicity associated with Porsche's classic air-cooled engines. The detailed engine illustration positioned at the bottom of the artwork highlights the characteristic cooling fan, intake system, belts and tightly packaged mechanical architecture of the rear-mounted flat-six. Classic Rear-Engine Architecture The Carrera 2 retained Porsche's defining combination of a rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. This distinctive configuration had shaped the character of the 911 for decades and remained central to the identity of the 964. A five-speed manual transmission delivers power to the rear wheels, maintaining the direct mechanical connection expected from a classic Porsche sports car. Evolution of an Iconic Shape The 964 carefully modernized the traditional 911 design without abandoning it. Its integrated bumpers created a cleaner appearance than earlier impact-bumper models, while the characteristic round headlamps, compact cabin, sloping roofline and muscular rear bodywork remained unmistakably Porsche. One of the generation's most distinctive innovations was its automatically extending rear spoiler, allowing the car to retain a clean silhouette while providing additional aerodynamic assistance at speed. Driver-Focused Interior Inside, the 964 continued Porsche's functional approach to cockpit design. The traditional instrument arrangement places the essential information directly ahead of the driver, while the straightforward dashboard and manual gear lever emphasize the car's sporting purpose. The cockpit illustration included in the artwork captures this characteristic combination of classic Porsche design and early-1990s refinement. Detailed Illustrated Composition The artwork includes: - Large three-quarter illustration of the 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 (964) - Elegant white exterior finish - Detailed front and rear technical views - Accurate side-profile presentation - Overhead technical view - Detailed 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six engine illustration - Period-inspired driver's cockpit - Classic five-spoke Porsche wheel design - Integrated 964 bumpers and aerodynamic bodywork - Characteristic retractable rear spoiler - Clearly arranged engine, power, drivetrain, transmission and top-speed specifications - Vintage technical typography and archival-inspired presentation The warm ivory background, understated white bodywork and precise monochrome technical illustrations create a sophisticated retro-industrial aesthetic. The large central vehicle remains the visual focus, while the surrounding drawings explore the engineering and design details that distinguish the 964 generation. Specifications Model: Porsche 911 Carrera 2 (964) Year: 1990 Engine: 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six Power: Approximately 250 PS Drive: Rear-wheel drive Transmission: 5-speed manual Top speed: Approximately 260 km/h Engine position: Rear Induction: Naturally aspirated Body: 2-door Coupé The poster makes a distinctive decorative piece for a garage, workshop, office, studio, living room, showroom or automotive collection. It is particularly suited to enthusiasts of Porsche, classic 911 models, air-cooled sports cars, German engineering and iconic automotive design. A celebration of one of the most important transitional generations in Porsche history — combining the unmistakable proportions and air-cooled character of the classic 911 with the engineering evolution that helped carry the model into a new era.
