Shmidt.Art - Porsche - Porsche 911 ST - 1970s

Offered is a striking and highly detailed A1-size poster featuring the legendary 1970 Porsche 911 ST — one of the rarest and most competition-focused early 911 variants, celebrated for its lightweight construction, widened bodywork, high-revving flat-six engine, and direct connection to Porsche’s factory racing program. Description This A1-format poster presents a refined technical-style illustration of the 1970 Porsche 911 ST, displayed in multiple views including front, rear, side, and top perspectives. Inspired by classic automotive blueprints, the composition combines engineering precision with the purposeful appearance of one of Porsche’s most significant early competition 911s. The design includes: Accurate proportions and dimensional layout Multiple perspectives highlighting the 911 ST’s classic early-911 silhouette, widened wheel arches, low stance, and competition-focused proportions Detailed presentation of its period racing wheels, minimalist bodywork, distinctive bumpers, lightweight details, and characteristic early Porsche design elements Clean technical annotations and specification panel Vintage-inspired background enhancing the authentic early-1970s motorsport atmosphere Poster size: A1 (594 × 841 mm) Design & Aesthetic Executed in a minimalist and sophisticated technical style, the poster features crisp linework, harmonious composition, and carefully presented engineering details. The muted vintage color palette and lightly aged paper texture complement the elegant simplicity of the early 911 shape, emphasizing the ST’s unique combination of understated Porsche design and serious competition engineering. Subject Significance Developed around 1970, the Porsche 911 ST was created as a lightweight competition evolution of the early 911 for international GT racing and rallying. Rather than being a conventional mass-production model, the ST specification was assembled in very small numbers and could vary depending on the intended competition use and customer requirements. The ST built upon Porsche’s philosophy of reducing weight while improving power, handling, and durability. Extensive lightweight measures could include thinner-gauge steel panels, lightweight glazing and simplified interior equipment, helping transform the already agile 911 into a much more focused competition machine. One of the ST’s most recognizable features was its widened wheel arches, required to accommodate substantially wider racing wheels and tires. These gave the car a more muscular stance while remaining far more restrained than the aerodynamic modifications seen on later Porsche racing models. Depending on specification and period, the 911 ST competed with several versions of Porsche’s air-cooled flat-six engine. Early cars were commonly associated with approximately 2.2-liter units, while subsequent competition development brought larger-displacement engines, including approximately 2.3- and 2.5-liter configurations. This makes the ST better understood as an evolving competition specification rather than a single standardized production model. The 911 ST competed successfully in major international events, including endurance races and rallies, and became an important step in the development of Porsche’s increasingly specialized 911-based competition cars. Its engineering philosophy directly anticipated the lightweight, wider-bodied approach that would later become famous with models such as the 911 Carrera RS and Carrera RSR. Only a very small number of genuine ST-specification cars were produced, and exact production totals are complicated by the fact that they were built and configured as competition cars rather than as a conventional standardized series. Today, authentic examples rank among the rarest and most desirable early Porsche 911s. Condition Excellent visual condition Crisp print quality with fine detailing No visible defects (adjust if necessary) Lot Details Lot size: 1 poster Size: A1 Theme: Classic automotive / technical illustration / Porsche motorsport Subject: 1970 Porsche 911 ST Collector’s Appeal This poster is an ideal collectible for Porsche enthusiasts, early-911 collectors, historic motorsport fans, and admirers of rare competition-derived automobiles.
