Alla auktioner / Fordon / Shmidt.Art - Shelby - Shelby Cobra 427 1966
A premium automotive poster dedicated to the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 — one of the most legendary Anglo-American sports cars ever created, combining lightweight British roadster architecture with the immense power of a large-displacement American V8. This artwork celebrates the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 in a deep blue finish with contrasting white racing stripes, combining its muscular proportions with a carefully structured technical presentation. The composition features a large three-quarter illustration accompanied by front, rear, side and top views, a detailed 427 V8 engine study, a driver-focused cockpit illustration and clearly arranged mechanical specifications. The Shelby Cobra 427 The Cobra began with a simple but radical idea: combine the lightweight AC Ace roadster with powerful American Ford engines. The concept evolved rapidly, culminating in the Cobra 427 — a substantially developed version engineered to accommodate Ford’s massive big-block V8 and the performance that came with it. By the mid-1960s, the Cobra had become one of the most formidable road-going sports cars of its generation. 7.0-Litre 427 V8 Under the bonnet sits a 7.0-litre Ford 427 FE V8. In high-performance specification, the legendary big-block engine was rated at approximately 425 bhp, providing extraordinary performance in a car with such compact dimensions and low weight. The detailed engine illustration positioned at the bottom of the artwork highlights the large air cleaner, carburetion system, cylinder banks, exhaust manifolds and mechanical simplicity of the American V8. Front-Engine, Rear-Wheel Drive The Cobra follows a classic performance-car formula: a powerful longitudinally mounted engine at the front and drive sent exclusively to the rear wheels. The enormous V8 output combined with the Cobra’s compact dimensions and lightweight construction created a dramatically different driving experience from the more refined European sports cars of the period. Four-Speed Manual Transmission The 427 V8 is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. With no sophisticated electronic driver aids separating the driver from the mechanical components, the Cobra delivers its performance through a remarkably direct combination of engine, gearbox, chassis and rear-wheel drive. Muscular Roadster Design The Cobra 427 developed the elegant proportions of the original AC Ace into a much more aggressive machine. Massively flared wheel arches accommodate the wider wheels and tyres, while the enlarged grille opening, bonnet scoop, side vents and exposed side exhaust pipes communicate the performance hidden beneath the bodywork. The deep blue paintwork and contrasting white racing stripes used in this artwork emphasize the competition-inspired character traditionally associated with the Shelby Cobra. Side Exhaust and Competition Details One of the Cobra’s most recognizable features is its exposed side-exit exhaust system. Running along the lower sides of the body, the exhaust pipes reinforce the raw mechanical appearance of the car and complement the roll hoop, bonnet scoop, quick-release-style details and wide competition-inspired wheels. Driver-Focused Cockpit The interior is deliberately simple and functional. A compact steering wheel, clear analog instrumentation, exposed manual gear lever and minimal dashboard place the essential controls directly around the driver. The open cockpit provides little separation between driver, machine and surroundings, perfectly reflecting the uncompromising philosophy behind the Cobra. Detailed Illustrated Composition The artwork includes: Large three-quarter illustration of the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Deep blue exterior finish with white racing stripes Detailed front and rear technical views Accurate side-profile presentation Overhead technical view Detailed 7.0-litre 427 FE V8 engine illustration Period-inspired driver’s cockpit Wide competition-style wheel arches Distinctive bonnet scoop Exposed side exhaust system Classic competition-inspired wheels Driver-side roll hoop Front-engine, rear-wheel-drive architecture Four-speed manual transmission Clearly arranged engine, power, drivetrain, transmission and top-speed specifications Vintage technical typography and archival-inspired presentation The warm ivory background, deep blue bodywork, contrasting racing stripes and precise monochrome technical illustrations create a refined vintage motorsport aesthetic. The large central Cobra remains the visual focus while the surrounding drawings explore the mechanical and design details behind this legendary sports car.
