Shōgun Ashikaga Yoshiteru & Emperor Go-Komatsu Astronomical Calendar Solar calendar & lunar calendar Moon phases, solar positions, comets, celestial phenomena, asteroids & meteoroids *** Unique piece *** about 122 cm long and 14 leaves folded Kyoto, circa 1450 Japanese astrology folded book (accordion type) 3 leaves with minor worm damage Astronomical events such as moon phases, solar positions, the rise and set of celestial bodies or their positions, autumnal or vernal equinox Summer solstice, autumnal point (autumnal equine) [Note: adjusted to standard term: autumnal equinox], winter solstice Dimensions: about 122 cm x 27 cm As the third Shōgun of the Ashikaga line, Yoshimitsu managed to end the 56-year split between the Northern and Southern Courts (namboku-chō). Although the Ashikaga shogunate is regarded as the weakest premodern Japanese government, Yoshimitsu built a period of political stability. Outside politics, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu promoted culture, art, and Buddhism in Japan. Under his patronage, the “traditional arts” began to develop and take shape, and as a monk the Ashikaga Shōgun had a strong influence on the shaping of Buddhism. In 1408, Emperor Go-Komatsu visited Kitayama to meet the Shogun. On this occasion Yoshimitsu organized a grand ceremony and a splendid festival. This visit is today known as the “imperial visit to Kitayama” and was a special event at the time. Go-Komatsu’s successor in 1412 was his son, Emperor Shōkō. The famed Zen Buddhist monk Ikkyū Sōjun was probably his other son. I guarantee the age and originality.
