Antique enameled advertising sign Württembergische Feuerversicherung AG Stuttgart – circa 1935–1945 An impressive, large, authentically looking enameled advertising and insurance sign from Württembergische Feuerversicherung AG in Stuttgart, executed in the distinctive deep blue with striking orange and white lettering. Centrally is the elegant text “Württembergische Feuerversicherung AG. in Stuttgart”, below that “SEIT 1828” and the bold advertising slogan “Versicherungen jeder Art”. At the top is the historical emblem with the stylized W, the roof and the flame. The note “Seit 1828” refers to the actual founding of the company. In 1828 the enterprise was established as Württembergische Privat-Feuer-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft. According to current Württembergische information, this was the first private property damage insurer in southern Germany. In 1923 the organization was transformed into Württembergische Feuerversicherung Aktiengesellschaft in Stuttgart. Historical insurance signs from this company were mounted on buildings and are today interesting collectibles in the field of German advertising history and insurance history. The Wirtschaftsarchiv Baden-Württemberg even owns historical insurance signs from Württembergische Feuerversicherung in its collection. For comparable enameled Württembergische signs with almost the same blue, orange, and white styling, specialized documentation dates them to 1935–1945. Based on style, inscription, and execution, this example also fits well within this prewar/early-20th-century advertising period. An exact production date or manufacturer is not visible on the offered sign, so the dating is cautiously kept to circa the 1930s/40s. With an impressive width of 58 cm and height of 38 cm, this is also a considerably larger example than many well-known Württembergische insurance signs.
