Octavo, ix, [1], 269pp, [1]. Blue cloth, title stamped in blue on the spine. No additional printings noted. Light rubbing to tips of the spine, a near fine example. Ownership inscription on the front free endpaper. Includes frontispiece portrait and seven photographic plates of players. In the publisher's dust jacket, $3.00 on the front flap, light sunning to the spine, chip to lower corner of rear panel, a very good example. Signed on the half title by Tommy Holmes and Warren Spahn. Tommy Holmes (1917 - 2008) was an American Major League Baseball outfielder and manager. Holmes was a two-time All-Star (1945, 1948) and led the National League in several categories during his standout 1945 season, including hits (224), doubles (47), home runs (28), total bases (367), and slugging percentage (.577). He later served as the Braves' manager from 1951 to 1952, compiling a 61-69 record. Warren Spahn (1921 - 2003) was an American left-handed pitcher who played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), primarily with the Boston and Milwaukee Braves. He holds the MLB record for most career wins by a left-handed pitcher, with 363 victories, and is fifth on the all-time wins list. Spahn achieved 20 or more wins in 13 seasons, the most by any left-hander in MLB history. He was a 17-time All-Star and won the Cy Young Award in 1957. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973.
