SOUTHERN AFRICA 1936 Schlesinger Air Race. There were 14 entrants, but only nine aircraft took part in the race, five dropping out prior to the race starting. The race began from Portsmouth Airport at 6.15am on Tuesday 29th Sep. Only one competitor finished the race. This cover was flown by Major A Miller flying in a Percival Mew Gull was the 2nd competitor to drop out of the race. He had a forced landing near Belgrade and withdrew.
