Cocktail rings were once considered rebellious because they made a clear statement: In the 1920s, ladies in the USA wore these large pieces of jewellery to parties where alcohol was served despite the prohibition, often disguised in colourful cocktails. Prominently placed on the index finger of the left hand, the message was clear: Look, I know how to enjoy life! Today there are no more illegal cocktail parties, at least not for adults, but nonetheless big cocktail rings remain statement pieces. A stunningly beautiful, untreated sapphire (no heat!) of approximately 16.0 carats forms the focal point of this cocktail ring. The ring, which came to us from Lake Constance, gathers around the faceted, gorgeously blue gemstone no less than eighteen radiant white diamonds weighing a combined total of about 1.62 carats. They are set in fine white gold in the classic style of the years around 1970; the design language is modern and geometric, elegant and clear. The sapphire in this ring is truly exceptional. Not only its size, but also its colour are rare and sought after and it is a stone of great transparency. Most importantly, it is not treated to enhance colour or clarity, it is a completely natural gemstone. Only some rutile needles provide slight inclusions that shimmer silky depending on the light. The diamonds are set in airy coronet settings, which enhances their sparkle with more incident light. The brilliance of the large ring head is thus elegantly structured and at the same time nobilized by the austerity of the form. The ring comes with a detailed certificate from the German Society for Gemstone Appraisal Idar-Oberstein.
