Statue, Lion blessé - 43 cm - cast plaster - 1950

Statue, Lion blessé - 43 cm - cast plaster - 1950

Large arrow-wounded lion, decorative animal sculpture, gold finish, black base. Style: Animal sculpture Subject: Lion portrayed with two arrows Year: 1950 Material: Molded appearance with gilded finish and black base Signature: No signature visible Dimensions: Approximately 55 cm in length, 43 cm in height and 16.5 cm in width at the base Weight: 7.2 kg Description: Large sculpture depicting a lying lion in a dynamic posture, head raised and jaws open. The mane is abundant and the body features detailed modeling. Two metal arrows are inserted in the lion’s back. They constitute a visible element of the composition. The sculpture rests on a black base with a relief suggesting a rocky terrain. The gilded finish of the lion contrasts with the dark base and emphasizes the volumes of the mane, the muscles, and certain anatomical details. The subject belongs to the realm of feline representations in animal sculpture. Some elements of the composition may be likened to models depicting wounded lions, but no precise reference to a specific work or artist can be established on the sole basis of the observed object. No attribution to Charles Valton is retained. Condition: Old condition with signs of use and wear visible. The gilded finish shows abrasions, small marks, and variations in patina. The black base also shows signs of wear. The two metal arrows are present. Please carefully consult the photographs, which are an integral part of the description. Decorative appeal: Thanks to its generous dimensions, its expressive subject, and the contrast between gold and black, this sculpture makes a striking decorative piece suited to a classical, eclectic, or contemporary interior. It may appeal to lovers of animal sculptures, antique decoration, and representations of large felines. Important note: the sculpture is unsigned. Its date, manufacturer, and the exact nature of its materials remain to be determined. It is sold as a decorative animal sculpture, without attribution to Charles Valton and without any information enabling confirmation of bronze fabrication or attribution of an artwork to this artist. Careful insured shipping with tracking.
