Only drugstores and chemists with sufficient turnover received these unique, hand-painted Gapers from the company Intec from Veenendaal/Holland. These were never released for sale/handel and were produced in a very small edition. The molds were destroyed in 1981 in the presence of guests and have not been made since. Height; approx. 21 cm Width; approx. 11 cm Depth; approx. 12.5 cm Weight; approx. 2.077 Kg Material; natural stone Despite its age, the statue is still in a like-new condition. A gaper served as the sign of pharmacists to attract customers, but also as a mark of quality for the shop. Initially this sign was placed on the canopy, but from the 17th century it was increasingly attached to the facade; this was especially common in Amsterdam. The mouth of the gaper is not open to yawn, but to take a medicine. The grimace of many gapers can be explained by the medicine tasting bad, at least that is the prevailing view. Shipped to you very well packed but we cannot be held liable for damage during transport. We wish you good luck bidding on this very rare item
