Stephanoceras Ammonite XXL - Fossil skeleton - 25 cm

An exceptionally large and impressive Stephanoceras ammonite from the Jurassic calls for attention. With its imposing size, striking shell structure, and characteristic spiral coiling, this fossil is a fascinating testimony to the ancient ocean world. Especially impressive is the strongly ornamented shell with clearly pronounced ribs that extend from the inner whorl to the broad outer edge. The distinctive sculpture gives the ammonite a plastically three-dimensional appearance and showcases the robust shell shape typical of Stephanoceras very well. The warm, earthy brown and ocher tones together with the naturally appearing mineral surface underscore the authentic character of this extraordinary fossil. Stephanoceras belongs to the ammonites, an extinct group of shelled cephalopods that played a significant role in marine ecosystems during the Mesozoic era. The genus lived in the Middle Jurassic, particularly during the Bajocian around about 170 to 168 million years ago. Their characteristically ribbed shells make these ammonites highly sought-after by fossil enthusiasts. Due to its impressive dimensions and striking surface texture, this XXL specimen is excellent as a decorative focal point in a fossil collection, a natural history exhibition, or as an extraordinary display piece. The stand is not included in the offer!
