In this Sumakh-Kelim from Afghanistan, there is a bright cream-colored field in the center, enlivened by a multitude of stylized animal and bird motifs. The figures are rendered in vivid tones of red, blue, yellow and green and are scattered loosely across the surface, giving the rug a lively, almost narrative character. The borders divide the rug with several narrow zones, displaying varied geometric patterns and floral elements. Particularly striking are the large, star-shaped flowers in the outer border, which harmonize with the colors of the inner field and provide the rug with a balanced frame. The kelim measures approximately 239 x 168 cm and was produced in the 21st century. It consists of wool on wool and is in a very well-kept and appealing overall condition.
