Swan, Mabie Todd & Co - Swan 142/51 Self-Filling - Fountain pen

The fountain pen is presented in good overall condition, maintaining a very attractive appearance thanks to its striking marbled celluloid in orange tones, which still retains notable shine and a highly striking presence. The body shows normal signs of use and aging, with light surface marks and small traces typical of a piece nearly a century old. There is some loss of intensity in the engraving on the barrel, something common in these models, but still legible and coherent with its age. The cap correctly preserves its shape and structure, with the characteristic decorative rings in good condition. The original Swan clip shows wear to the plating, especially visible in the areas of greatest rubbing, but without affecting its functionality. The lever-fill system has been checked and is operating, functioning correctly as is usual in pieces prepared for use. The original 14K gold Swan nib is in good condition, with superficial wear consistent with use, maintaining its structural integrity and providing functional writing. The ebonite feed responds properly. It is worth noting the presence of a personalized engraving on the body, which, while giving the piece historical character, reduces its value compared to specimens without customization. Overall, this is a well-preserved, functional pen representative of Mabie Todd quality, ideal for both use and collection. Conservation recommendations It is recommended to use high-quality fountain pen inks, avoiding pigmented inks or inks with high chemical content. If not in regular use, clean with warm water, dry completely before storing, and keep in a dry place away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Operate the filling system gently to preserve its proper long-term function. It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper preservation. Happy bidding!
