(t) CHINA--FOREIGN BANKS. Chartered Bank of India, Australia, & China. 5 Dollars, 1.3.1924. P-S159. S/M#Y11-30a. PMG Choice Fine 15. Hankow. The last issue for this branch. This $5 note from Hankow, in rich, green colours and with a hand-signed signature at the lower left, is notorious for being difficult in the higher grades. This note, although having seen moderate circulation, is devoid of any annotations, tears, or repairs, which are very commonly found for this type. It is, therefore, not hyperbolic to suggest that this note is among the better examples extant, taking into account its natural and problem free condition. Estimate: $500 - $800. Provenance: From the Yang Ai Hao Collection. (t) This lot was manufactured in China (including Hong Kong), Russia or Republic of Belarus and was sourced from outside the United States for this auction after tariffs were enacted by the United States.
