Taxidermy: A Cased Cast of The Record Common Carp "Benson" (Cyprinus carpio), modern, by Barry Williams, Taxidermy, Cannock, Staffordshire, (Cyprinus carpio), Taxidermy: A Cased Cast of The Record Common Carp "Benson" (Cyprinus carpio), modern, by Barry Williams, Taxidermy, Cannock, Staffordshire, a superb huge cast of the record caught carp "Benson", presented within a natural riverbed setting, amidst natural weeds and reeds, mounted above a pebbled riverbed, set against a graduated green painted backdrop, enclosed within a large period style ebonised bow-fronted display case, with verre eglomise border, 121cm by 28.5cm by 72cm, bearing gilt legend to front glass - "Benson, Record Common Carp, Bluebell Lake, July 2009, Best Wgt - 64lbs June 2005". This enormous Carp was aptly named Benson following an incident where an angler burnt a hole through her dorsal fin with a cigarette to help identify her when caught, hence "Benson" of Benson and Hedges. In June 2005 she was caught weighing 64lbs and later died in July of 2009 at Bluebell lakes, Oundle, Cambridgeshire. Benson was the most famous and fished for Carp of the early 2000's, when she died it was reported across the World, even making headlines in "The Wall Street Journal" New York. Tony Bridgefoot, owner of Bluebell lakes commissioned taxidermist Barry Williams to mount the fish and create a limited edition of 20 casts from the original taxidermy mount.
