Antique Chinese famille verte tazza – Qing dynasty – 18th/19th century – hand-painted A particularly decorative antique Chinese porcelain tazza or footed bowl from the Qing dynasty, richly hand-painted in a colorful famille-verte palette. The bowl features an elegant elevated foot and a pronounced with-fluted, flower-shaped rim. Both the interior and the exterior and even the foot are richly decorated, making the object attractive from every angle. Decoration The interior is built around a beautiful central medallion with a stylized flower/lotus, executed in yellow, green, iron red, and aubergine/pink and accented with blue. Around the medallion lies a repeating geometric meander-like band. From the center the bowl is radially divided into petal-shaped sections, filled with alternating floral motifs. The color palette includes, among others: * iron red/orange * various greens * aubergine and pink * yellow * blue outlines and accents The exterior is also unusually meticulously finished. Large lobed cartouches with flowers and leaves follow the shape of the bowl. The elevated foot is likewise painted around with separate geometric panels and floral motifs. A broad iron-red band and a narrow yellow line form the transition between bowl and foot. The small variations in flowers, lines and enamel confirm the hand-painted character of the decoration. Dating and provenance The combination of the tazza shape, fluted rim, radial sector division and the polychrome enamel palette aligns with the Chinese famille-verte decorative tradition, which flourished during the Kangxi period (1662–1722). Similar famille-verte tazzas and footed bowls are known from the Kangxi period and the later 18th century. Such early forms and decorations were, however, also continued and reinterpreted during the later Qing dynasty. Based on the photos I therefore regard a dating in the Qing dynasty, presumably 18th–19th century, as the most responsible description. An early-18th-century/Kangxi dating is possible, but is not claimed as a definitive attribution for this object. The underside has an unglazed resting ring with clear signs of age and use. The interior of the foot is glazed and shows the characteristic irregularities of the manufacturing process. The object bears no visible factory or government mark. Condition The object, given its age, is in an attractive antique condition with normal signs of manufacture, aging and use. On the fluted outer rim there is a clearly visible old nick/chip. Additionally, locally there are small irregularities, discolorations and signs of use. Please examine the photos carefully; they form an important part of the condition description. The natural signs of aging have been deliberately preserved and the object has not been cosmetically restored for photography. A Special Collectible A very decorative Chinese tazza in which the combination of the lobed form, elevated and fully painted foot, and rich famille-verte-like polychromy stand out. An interesting object for collectors of Chinese Qing porcelain, famille verte, Chinese export porcelain and 18th/19th-century Asian art. Dimensions: H 5 cm x Ø 12 cm Weight: 202 grams Period: Qing dynasty, presumably 18th–19th century Origin: China Material: porcelain Decoration: hand-painted polychrome overglaze enamel decoration, famille-verte tradition Condition: antique condition with old nick/chip at the rim and normal signs of aging and use Shipped securely with smart shipping, insured, track and trace included.
