Th.-Prosper Le Blanc - Étude sur le symbolisme druidique - 1849

A fascinating original edition complete with its 5 folding plates in perfect condition of this historical, philosophical, and archaeological essay devoted to the interpretation of symbols, beliefs, and traditions attributed to the ancient druids of the Celtic peoples - The author aligns himself with the scholarly and romantic current of the 19th century that seeks to rediscover the spiritual origins of European nations by reevaluating the heritage of pre-Christian civilizations, and he undertakes to reconstruct, from antique testimonies, popular traditions, archaeological remains, and symbolic comparisons, the religious and philosophical thought of Druidism - From the very first chapters, Le Blanc recalls the difficulties of this undertaking, owing to the scarcity of direct sources, the druids having transmitted their knowledge essentially orally, forcing historians to rely on the accounts of Julius Caesar, Strabo, Diodorus Siculus, Pliny the Elder, Tacitus and other Greco-Roman authors - Th.-Prosper Le Blanc - Study on Druidic Symbolism - 1849 - Téchener - 231 pp Good condition of the binding, softcover edition in its full original printed flexible cover, stains and wear from use, some minor defects on the cover, rounded corners, speckled edges, smooth spine titled in black, as well as the first plate - Good interior condition, some stains, original edition complete with its 5 folding plates in perfect condition, a pleasing copy - Delivery service guaranteed within a few days -
