Remarkable terracotta-footed cup painted in the Ban Chiang tradition, in northeastern Thailand, late period, circa 300 BCE–200 CE. The piece stands out for its elegant architectural silhouette: a deep rounded basin rests on a tall flared foot, while a broadly open rim balances the overall form. The exterior surface is covered with a light engobe over which unfolds a spectacular red decoration consisting of multiple concentric lines, semicircular motifs, chevrons and a geometric frieze at the junction of the foot. This decorative organization is characteristic of the painted productions of the late Ban Chiang phase. Comparable footed vessels, combining light engobe and red geometric decoration, are preserved in several major international museum collections, notably the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum and the Norton Simon Museum. The interest of this exemplar also lies in its generous dimensions of 20 cm in diameter, the very legible decoration, and its excellent formal balance. The continuity of the paste, engobe, paint and surface alterations is coherent across the entire piece. The cup is preserved in good condition for its age, with the wear, small erosions and occasional losses expected on an archaeological ceramic of this type. No filling or restoration is visible. A particularly decorative piece and representative of one of the most emblematic ceramic traditions of ancient Southeast Asia. video link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/xxkuz3edch3d3u6864xov/AMnF-FLxjBRpmpCH-7F7m2A?rlkey=xy901zqfxzyqv8gsxa6mtvfxu&dl=0
