The Beatles - Ballads (Japan) – Rare 1980 White Label...

A scarce Japanese white label promotional pressing of The Beatles Ballads, released in 1980 by Odeon/Toshiba-EMI under catalogue number EAS-91006. This edition represents a particularly compelling variation for Beatles collectors, distinguished by its white promotional labels—produced exclusively for distribution to Japanese radio stations and music industry representatives rather than for ordinary retail sale. Such promotional copies were never intended for commercial circulation, making them considerably more elusive than standard releases. The album brings together twenty of The Beatles' most beloved recordings, including Yesterday, Norwegian Wood, Michelle, Something, Here Comes the Sun and Let It Be. A notable aspect of this pressing is its striking cover artwork, created by Scottish artist John Patrick Byrne in 1968 and originally featured in The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics before appearing on this 1980 compilation. This copy is fully complete with its original Japanese obi and illustrated lyric insert—important accessories that enhance both the presentation and collector appeal of this promotional edition. ⸻ Sleeve (VG+): The sleeve remains clean and well preserved, showing only light signs of wear consistent with careful handling. The obi remains intact and presents nicely. Overall a strong, presentable example → VG+ Insert: Original illustrated lyric insert included. Obi: Original Japanese obi present. Vinyl (NM): Exceptionally well-preserved vinyl in Near Mint condition, with a beautiful lustre and only the lightest of handling marks. Playback is pristine throughout → NM ⸻ Details * Japan white label promo pressing * 1980 release * Odeon / Toshiba-EMI * Catalogue: EAS-91006 * 20 original tracks * Original obi included * Original insert included * Cover artwork by John Patrick Byrne (1968)
