Thermidor - Hourglass - No reserve price - 1397 - Men - 1970-1979

Thermidor Automatic – Vintage Swiss Mechanical Watch – Incabloc – Date – Roman Numerals – 1970s–1980s A characterful vintage Thermidor Automatic, featuring a distinctive tonneau-shaped stainless steel case, Roman numeral dial and Swiss automatic mechanical movement. The watch immediately attracts attention through its strongly aged silver-tone dial, which has developed an extensive and highly individual tropical-style patina over the decades. Rather than presenting the uniform appearance of a restored dial, the surface displays natural tonal variations, spotting and oxidation that give this particular example a unique vintage identity. Large black Roman numerals surround the dial, complemented by luminous-style hour markers and hands, a contrasting red central seconds hand and a framed date window at 3 o’clock. The dial is signed Thermidor Automatic, Waterproof, Incabloc and Swiss Made. Technical Details Brand: Thermidor Type: Men’s wristwatch Movement: Swiss automatic mechanical movement Shock protection: Incabloc Case material: Stainless steel Case shape: Tonneau / cushion style Case diameter: Approx. 33 mm, excluding crown Crystal: Acrylic Dial: Silver-tone dial with extensive natural tropical-style patina Hour markers: Black Roman numerals with luminous-style accents Hands: Luminous-style hour and minute hands, red central seconds hand Functions: Hours, minutes, central seconds, date Date: Window at 3 o’clock Case back: Stainless steel, screw-back Case number: 1397 Strap: Black leather, generic, approx. 18–19 cm total fitting length Water resistance: Not tested for water. Box: Delivered with generic presentation box. Condition Grade: B Condition Report This Thermidor Automatic is presented in Condition Grade B, with signs of age and use that form an important part of its vintage character. The most distinctive feature is undoubtedly the dial. Over time, the original silver-tone surface has developed natural patina, oxidation, spotting and irregular tonal changes, creating an individual tropical-style appearance. This ageing is clearly visible throughout the dial and should be considered part of the character of the watch rather than a pristine cosmetic condition. Despite the pronounced patina, the Thermidor signature, Roman numerals, minute track, date aperture and other dial inscriptions remain visible. The stainless steel case shows scratches, marks and surface wear consistent with age. The acrylic crystal also shows normal signs of use. The black leather strap is a later generic replacement. The watch has not been tested for water resistance; therefore, despite the original “Waterproof” inscription on the dial and case back, water resistance is not guaranteed. Please study all photos carefully, as they are part of the description and clearly show the actual condition and distinctive patina of this watch. Story & Heritage Thermidor is a Swiss watch name associated with traditional mechanical wristwatches produced during the 20th century. This example captures several characteristic elements of the 1970s watchmaking aesthetic: a geometric tonneau case, automatic movement, date complication and bold dial typography. Inside is a Swiss automatic mechanical movement, visible in the photographs, with a signed oscillating rotor and Incabloc shock protection. This combination reflects the practical approach of Swiss everyday mechanical watches of the period — robust, functional and designed for regular use. What makes this particular example especially visually distinctive is its heavily aged dial. No two naturally patinated dials develop in precisely the same way, and here the transformation of the original surface has created an almost abstract texture across the dial. Combined with the oversized Roman numerals, red seconds hand and angular stainless steel case, the result is a watch with considerable vintage personality. A distinctive collector’s piece for enthusiasts of Swiss automatic watches, naturally aged dials and unconventional 1970s design. Internal Reference Number - ITM 930
