Three Strand Salmon-Coloured Coral Necklace, Italy, ca. 1890

A beautiful salmon pink makes this Italian Mediterranean coral necklace a wonderful eye-catcher. The large hand-polished beads of up to one centimeter in diameter are arranged into three strands that graduate in size towards the centre. The region around the Gulf of Naples had early developed into a center of coral workmanship. To this day, souvenirs are made there from this treasure of the sea in the most beautiful colours that nature produces. From the creamy white of the Adriatic coral to the delicate pink of the angel skin coral or Pelle d'Angelo, from beautiful salmon red hues to the vibrant dark red colour known as oxblood and Moro coral, an entire colour palette of the most beautiful tones can be found. The necklace we have here was made in the years around 1890. We restrung the beads in order to assure safe and carefree wear. It is a typical coral piece from Italy, as it was purchased by travellers and locals alike.
