Tile - Blauw-wit tegeltableau met zeilschip – gemerkt REBER Lx

Blue-and-white tiled tableau with a sailing ship – marked REBER Lx, in a wooden frame Full sails, rolling sea and fluttering pennants: this decorative tiled tableau brings the atmosphere of historical sailing into the home. Six ceramic tiles form one continuous scene, in which a sailing ship stands at the center under a lively cloudy sky. The nuances from deep blue to soft light blue give the scene depth. Finely detailed rigging, figures on board and birds above the water invite you to continually discover new details. A surrounding decoration of twisted ropes and pulleys reinforces the nautical character. The warm-colored wooden frame provides a beautiful contrast to the glossy tiles. On the bottom right is the mark “REBER Lx”. Comparable ceramic objects with the name Reber are offered as originating from Lisbon, Portugal. This points to a likely Portuguese origin; the exact maker and dating of this tableau have not been established. (poshmark.ca) The execution aligns nicely with the Portuguese azulejo tradition. This decorative tile art has a long history, with blue-and-white tiles especially enjoying a significant flowering period in the eighteenth century. This forms the cultural background of the style, without dating the tableau offered here. A atmospheric eye-catcher for lovers of ceramics, seafaring and maritime wall decor.
