Tina Modotti (1896–1942) - Campesino and Son, Veracruz, Mexico, 1927

"Campesino and Son" (Veracruz, Mexico, 1927) is one of the most celebrated photographs by Italian-born photographer and political activist Tina Modotti. The photograph captures a peasant farmer (campesino) and his young son. Modotti tightly crops the frame, often focusing heavily on the textures of their clothing, their sombreros, and their weathered, expressive features. • Modernist Influence: Trained under her lover and collaborator Edward Weston, Modotti utilized "straight photography"—characterized by sharp focus, high contrast, and geometric simplicity.
