True effigy of the venerable Father Fray Francisco de Posadas. Cordoban

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions 103 x 78 / 121 x 97 cm. A devotional, half-length portrait of the Venerable Friar Francisco de Posadas, dressed in a Dominican habit and depicted in a meditative pose, holding a rosary and reaching for a table with a book and study materials. The figure stands out against a dark background and somber drapery that draws attention to the ascetic face, the severity of the gesture, and the spiritual intensity of the scene. The composition underscores the humility, discipline, and inner life of the friar through a restrained arrangement of attributes and a subdued lighting that powerfully models the flesh tones and the folds of the habit. The work exemplifies the Andalusian Baroque convent portrait style of the first half of the 18th century, where the moral dignity of the subject takes precedence over theatrical staging, lending the image a distinctly exemplary and devotional value. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
