Undated (ca. 1793-1795) Kentucky Token. W-8805. Rarity-5. Copper.

Undated (ca. 1793-1795) Kentucky Token. W-8805. Rarity-5. Copper. Engrailed Edge. MS-63 BN (NGC). One of the most difficult Kentucky token varieties to find in nice grade. Halos of mint color surround design elements, particularly rich around the "starry pyramid" on the reverse. The light brown fields show some iridescent undertones and scattered light marks, none serious. We note a little spot right of the obverse scroll that serves as a provenance marker. When we last sold this piece 13 years ago, it was graded PCGS/CAC MS-64 BN. PCGS has still never graded a piece finer than the MS-64 grade level in the BN designation and only a single MS-65 RB finer. Provenance: From the Winslet Collection. Earlier from our Chicago ANA Auction of August 2013, lot 1267, PCGS/CAC MS-64 BN. NGC Census: 3; 1 finer (MS-65 BN). PCGS# 617. NGC ID: AUBM. Click here for certification details from NGC.
